UNISAVIOUR, a disinfectant box devised by IIT Roorkee

In the sway of the ongoing pandemic, Researchers and students have been invariably and arduously discovering ways to reduce the transmission risk of the novel coronavirus. So, the researchers from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee have now come up with a disinfectant box, which has been named as "Unisavior".

'Unisavior' is a disinfection box, which is capable of disinfecting a wide variety of personal belongings, medical equipment, apparels and personal protection equipment (PPE) against the coronavirus.

This unisavior box consists of an inner metal covering with specifically designed highly reflective geometry to permit the calibrated passage of UVC light to sterilise the personal belongings.

Along with the indigenous metal oxide layer, the box possesses coatings of the herbal antibacterial and antiviral layer so as to avert the growth of microbes in the absence of UVC light i.e, when not functioning. The disinfection box is easy to deploy at any social spots like malls, theatres, etc. The box has been armed with an Arduino-programmed system, to curb the time exposure and intensity of UVC light which will help in purifying the personal belongings. The patent has also been filled up by the research committee for this device.

IIT Delhi: devised Chakr DeCov to depurate N95 masks

Realising the dependability of health care authorities on N95 masks to prevent from affliction. The team of Chakr innovation, under the supervision of professors and researchers at IIT Delhi, has manufactured Chakr DeCov - which is an ozone-based sterilising device to foster safe reuse of N95 masks. This sterilising device has been launched by the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Ashwini Kumar chaubey.

Chakr DeCov has been built with a decontamination mechanism, to annihilate the risk of reusing the N-95 masks by the healthcare connoisseurs. It can sanitize the N95 mask within 90 minutes.

How does this instrument operate??

The equipment uses the high penetrability of ozone gas for disinfecting the pores of the N95 mask. It also ensures the complete sterilisation of its intricate coverings. As ozone being a strong oxidising agent destroy viruses by diffusing

through the protein coat, resulting in the damage of viral RNA. Proper dosage and disclosure of ozone can lead to the inactivation of SARS CoV-2 and a 99.999% drop in bacterial load thereby, boosting the reuse of N95 masks for up to 10 times without any influence on the filtration efficiency as per tested by SITRA.
